Lifecycle of the bean: Day 39

We have got really stuck with these beans, ’cause they’re so tall they started to droop over!
Mom went over the moon when I showed her and insisted we buy big canes (at first I thought she was going to whack them for growing so fast.) But as we went to the nursery she explained she was not going to give them a hiding, but just support them instead… This is what they look like now.

Spider Top Trumps

I was unwillingly forced to do these top trumps by my mom. She wanted them for work as she has to make some random classwork science stuff. They actually are quite good though. And I learnt lots of cool things about spiders. I hope you enjoy them, cut them out and they make cool cards!

Here I am, still watering the beans after 31 days.
I water them about twice a week, except if it’s sunny – then I water them a bit more (but it’s not, because it’s winter and freezing cold and rainy).

Mr Bean is catching up in the height race. Can you see he’s nearly as tall as Human Bean (previously known as Mrs Bean by my mom, not me.)
A few more beans have finally popped up. I replanted all ten beans in the pot, so I think it’s going to look like the Amazon rainforest before long…

Now it is quite a few days after we planted the beans in a big pot…
Would you believe it, there are actually 10 beans in there!!!
The biggest bean you can see Mom has named Mrs Bean, even though I was going to name it human bean, because it’s growing to the size of one. Mr Bean has been outgrown almost twice (he’s the one furthest from the camera… oh yeah, remember that rotting one, I called it hasbean…

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I woke up this morning and this is what I found:
Mr Bean’s root has turned black! This is exactly what happened to the other bean whose root rotted… Both of these were broad beans.

Yet all the kidney beans are fine. Have a look at this one:
I think that the two broad beans rotted because they had a long root and needed less water. The kidney beans had shorter roots that needed more water near the bean. Thats why the kidney beans are growing well and the broad beans aren’t.
So we decided that, in order to save the rotting beans, we should plant them in soil. Plants need water, sunlight, nutrition from the soil and warmth and I think that we didn’t give them enough nutrition from just being in kitchen towel instead of soil.

This is me planting the beans in a big pot outside (and eating soil…)
I hope now they are in soil they will grow.
