Lifecycle of the bean: Day 19

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I woke up this morning and this is what I found: Mr Bean’s root has turned black! This is exactly what happened to the other bean whose root rotted… Both of these were broad beans.

Yet all the kidney beans are fine. Have a look at this one:
I think that the two broad beans rotted because they had a long root and needed less water. The kidney beans had shorter roots that needed more water near the bean. Thats why the kidney beans are growing well and the broad beans aren’t.

So we decided that, in order to save the rotting beans, we should plant them in soil. Plants need  water, sunlight, nutrition from the soil and warmth and I think that we didn’t give them enough nutrition from just being in kitchen towel instead of soil.

This is me planting the beans in a big pot outside (and eating soil…)

I hope now they are in soil they will grow.
